It was a sad day for the fans of Urdu drama as veteran TV actress Safia Khairi passed away in Karachi. She was 86 years old and was quite popular due to her roles in Haseena Moin's Kasak, Pal Do Pal and other plays. Her role as the iconic mother in Seema Ghazal's Chaandni Raatein was easily her most famous one because she not only played the mother to Jawed Sheikh and Humayun Saeed but also the mother in law to Faryal Gauhar and Mahnoor Baloch.
Safia Khairi was a late starter when it comes to acting as she didn't venture into acting until she was 60 years old. The actress in her was discovered by legendary PTV director Mohsin Ali and writer Haseena Moin who cast her in Kasak in the role of a grandmother. Since then she became the first choice for elderly roles but bid farewell to acting after her husband's death six years back. She is survived by three children including noted columnist Umber Khairi, two grandchildren and countless fans around the world who will keep her legacy alive by watching her dramas time and again.
