Famous film and TV actress Roohi Bano who gained immense fame and popularity in the 1970s and the 1980s passed away in Turkey after a prolonged illness. The actress who was suffering from a mental disorder for the last few years was under treatment in Turkey and reportedly suffered from kidney failure.
Roohi Bano began her career in the 1970s when she was a student; she continued to appear in TV plays even while she was doing her MSc in Psychology; after appearing as Kiran in Haseena Moin’s Kiran Kahani, she became extremely popular all over the country. The Pride of Performance winner went onto act in many successful plays including Qila Kahani, Zard Gulab, Hairatkada, Darwaza to name a few.
Roohi Bano also acted in films but couldn’t make it as a lead actress, ending up as the second lead but she got to act alongside Waheed Murad, Mohammad Ali, Nadeem, Shabnam and other legendary actors of her time. However, two failed marriages and the murder of her young son Ali in 2005 broke her spirit and she ended up getting treated for schizophrenia at a mental hospital in Lahore. Her death has saddened fans of Pakistani drama wherever it is being watched; her dramas will keep her legacy alive for as long as they are watched around the world.
